Box Score 2 Hamden, Conn. (April 8, 2023)—Mount St. Mary's split a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader at Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon. After
Avery Neuhart tossed a three-hit shutout to lead the Mount to a 6-0 win in game one, the Mount bats went silent in a 5-0 loss in game two. The loss in game two snapped the Mount's four-game win streak, giving the Mount a 19-14 record overall and a 4-2 mark in the MAAC.
MOUNT 6, QUINNIPIAC 0 (GAME 1)
The Mount offense pounded out 13 hits while
Avery Neuhart continued her terrific season in the Mount's 6-0 win in the opening game of the doubleheader.
Vanessa Martin went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI while Neuhart tossed a xx-hit shutout in the win.
The Mount's
Abigayle Perry opened the game with a leadoff triple, but was thrown out at the plate on
Maggie Kane's squeeze attempt, allowing the Bobcats to keep the game scoreless.
The Mount gave Neuhart the only run she would need in the top of the second inning.
Tori Bowles doubled and came home to score a Martin base hit. The Mountaineers added two more run in the top of the third. Perry singled to start the frame, and came around to score on a Kane three-base hit.
Hannah Gartrell then lofted a sacrifice fly to plate Kane for the 3-0 advantage.
Mount St. Mary's added an unearned run in the fifth, and Martin belted a two-run homer, her second of the season, to round out the scoring.
Martin led the Mount with the three-hit day while Bowles,
Mariah Godde, Perry and Kane each added two-hit efforts. Bowles had two doubles in the game. Neuhart improved to 6-2 on the season while lowering her season ERA to 1.17 with the complete-game shutout. She allowed just three hits while striking out three with no walks in the game.
QUINNIPIAC 5, MOUNT 0 (GAME 2)
The Mount bats went silent in game two as Quinnipiac earned a split with a 5-0 victory in the nightcap.
Zoe Wilcox provided all of the Mount's offense, recording both hits in the loss.
The Bobcats (14-14, 3-3 MAAC) scored once in the first and added two runs in both the third and fourth innings en route to the 5-0 win. Mount starting pitcher
Olivia Murphy took the loss, allowing three runs in 2.1 innings of work.
Maddie Coleman allowed a pair of runs in 1.2 innings, while
Amaya Bowman pitched two scoreless innings.
Wilcox finished the game 2-for-3 with a double for the Mountaineers.
UP NEXT: The Mount is off for a week before beginning a 12-game homestand with a pair of MAAC doubleheaders. The Mount hosts Manhattan (April 15) and Saint Peter's (April 16) next weekend at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on campus.
