EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 7, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse looks to pick up a road win on a long journey for Easter Weekend, traveling to Buffalo to face Canisius.
MOUNT UPDATE
Eyeing two straight wins, the Mountaineers will also look to cement a top four position in the MAAC standings. Thanks to last Wednesday's 15-9 win over Iona, the team now sits in fourth place in the league, one-half game ahead of Niagara and Quinnipiac and a half game back against Manhattan.
Dani Donoghue came within one goal of her career high against the Gaels with six goals, allowing the senior to retake the team goal lead with 27.
Margaret Lonergan did secure a career high for caused turnovers, driving her total for the season up to 22.
15 goals has been the magic number for winning conference games, as the Iona total matched the Niagara game. Another goal on this trip will be to pick up their first win away from home – they stand 0-6 outside Waldron this spring.
SCOUTING CANISIUS
The Golden Griffins hope to avoid a three-game losing streak, dropping games to Iona and Siena this past week. Like the Mount, Canisius also defeated Niagara, winning the Battle of the Bridge 12-11 on March 29
th.
The duo of Paige Stachura and Skylar McArthur are the primary goal scorers, with Stachure edging McArthur for the team lead, 33-32. Stachura plays the entire field, leading Canisius in draw controls, tying for the lead in caused turnovers and ranking third for ground balls. Freshman Jody Chu mans the net most of the time, compiling 78 saves so far.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Mount St. Mary's and Canisius are meeting for the first time.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Returning home, the Mount faces Fairfield Wednesday (Apr. 12) at noon.
