Hamden, Conn. (April 27, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's is coming off a close 3-1 midweek loss to George Mason in a game where pitching was the name of the game. They now look at conference foes, Quinnipiac, for a weekend of in-conference battle which begins Friday (4/28) with a noon doubleheader. The three-games series has been adjusted due to projected rain for the weekend.
MOUNT UPDATE
The Mountaineers sit in sixth place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with a sound 6-6 record, given the matchups they've faced, tied with Manhattan for the sixth and final MAAC playoff spot. Overall, the Mount has six players batting over .300 although, one through nine in the lineup can contribute to runs on any given day.
Leading the team's bats is still the junior outfielder from Fredericksburg, Va. in
Aiden Tierney who has produced an average of .364 with 21 scores and 40 hits.
Scott Seeker holds the two spot, batting a .351 with 11 home runs and 31 RBI.
Shane Wockley has the most dingers with 13, while batting a .339 with 39 RBI.
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
The Bobcats are 15-22 overall and sit just above the Mount in the MAAC standings with an 8-7 record. Quinnipiac sports a 6-3 mark on their home diamond. Leading the team's offense is Anthony Donofrio with an average of .340 with 10 home runs and 43 RBI. Next in line is Sean Swenson who bats a .326 with seven home runs and 56 RBI.
Leading the pitching staff is righty Kevin Seitter who yields an ERA of 4.02 through 56 innings while recording 46 strikeouts. Tim Blaisdell is next to the mound, a player who yields an ERA of 6.71 through 51 innings and has recorded 42 strikeouts.
