Mountaineers Start Two-Week Away Stint at George Mason

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 24th, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's baseball is coming off a 2-2 week while notching their 20th win of the season against Maryland Eastern Shore. Coach Leoni and his crew are 20-18 with a 6-6 conference record. The team kicks off the beginning of their two-week away stint at George Mason tomorrow in Fairfax, Va. at 3 p.m.
 
MOUNT UPDATE
 
The Mountaineers tallied 11 hits in their series finale against UMES, three coming from Tristan McAlister. McAlister produced a 3-5 day at the plate with a homerun and a double. Luke Pryor pitched well in his 5.0 innings as he allowed just one run on one hit and tallied a strikeout.
 
Aiden Tierney leads the teams average batting a .364 with 21 scores and 13 RBI, while Shane Wockley jumped to second as he bats .352 on the season with 13 home runs and 39 RBI. Scott Seeker and Jayson Kramer are in the three and four spot, Seeker bats a .344 with 11 home runs and 31 RBI while Kramer bats a .343 with nine home runs and 33 RBI. The Mountaineers as a team bat a very strong .307 with 64 total home runs and yield an OPS percentage of .908.
 
SCOUTING GEORGE MASON
 
The Patriots are 19-20 on the year while 12-8 at home. South Trimble leads their offense, batting an average of .315 with 29 RBI. Jordan Smith and Reece Woody hold the two and three spot batting a .299 on the season. The team bats a moderate .274 while they hold opponents to .250.
 
George Mason's ace on the mound Chad Gartland who yields an ERA of 3.06 with 57 strikeouts through 61 2/3 innings and is 4-2 on the season. Next to the mound is left-handed pitcher Ben Shields who yields an ERA of 4.33 through 52 innings, has 74 strikeouts, and holds a season record of 5-2.
 
HISTORY WITH THE PATRIOTS
 
Mount St. Mary's is 3-11 against the Patriots while 1-7 on the road. The last matchup played between these two clubs was played on May 4th, 2022, in a home win 11-10 for the Mountaineers. Aiden Tierney went 3-4 at the plate with a home run in last years contest.
