Emmitsburg, Md. (April 17, 2023)--Mount St. Mary's swept visiting Manhattan in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on Monday afternoon. The Mount captured the opening game, 3-1, before hanging on for an 8-7 win in the nightcap. With the wins, the Mount improves to 22-15 overall and 7-3 in the MAAC. The Mount moves to 15-3 at home this season, setting a school record for home wins in a season.
In the opening game, the Mount used the long ball to generate the offense in a 3-1 victory.
Hannah Gartrell belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning to put the Mount on top, 2-0.
Tori Bowles led off the inning with a base hit ahead of Gartrell's second home run in as many games. Bowles connected with a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fourth to put the Mount ahead, 3-0. It was also the second consecutive game for Bowles to hit a home run as she hit the go-ahead homer in the bottom of the sixth of the Mount's 5-4 win over Saint Peter's in the second game of yesterday's doubleheader.
Manhattan (6-29, 2-6 MAAC) got on the scoreboard with an unearned run in the top of the fifth inning., but the Mount was able to hold the Jaspers off the scoreboard the rest of the way to earn the win.

Avery Neuhart picked up the win to improve to 7-3 on the season. Neuhart allowed an unearned run in five innings of work for the victory. She allowed five hits while striking out four in the contest.
Maddie Coleman pitched the final two innings to pick up her second save of the year. Coleman allowed a pair of hits while striking out two in her two scoreless innings of relief. At the plate, Bowles went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored to lead the way.
In the second game, the Mount built an 8-2 lead after three innings of play and held on for the 8-7 victory.

Elizabeth King each had a pair of hits for the Mount in the win.

Abigayle Perry got the game started quickly in the bottom of the first. Perry drilled ball to the fence in center field for a triple, and she came running home when the throw to third was off the mark for a 1-0 advantage. The Mount added four more runs in the bottom of the second to push the lead out to five runs. King singled to open the frame and Perry drew a one-out walk. Kane followed with a double that plated both runners to make it 3-0. The Mount eventually loaded the bases for
Vanessa Martin, who came through with a two-run single for a five-run lead.
Manhattan's Lily Fish hit a two-run homer to cut the Mount's lead to 5-2, but the Mountaineers answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. King and
Laurenne Gallagher singled to start things off in the inning, and Perry's RBI single brought home King.
Mariah Godde's RBI single plated the seventh run, with an error on the left fielder allowing Perry to come home for the 8-2 lead.
The Mount maintained the six-run lead until Manhattan rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth. The Jaspers took advantage of Mount errors to score the first two runs, and Lauren Rende belted a three-run homer that made it a one-run game. In the top of the seventh, Manhattan had runners on first and second with two outs, but the Mount's
Amaya Bowman got Fish to ground out to second to end the game.

Olivia Murphy picked up the win, allowing a pair of runs in five innings to move to 8-5 on the year. Bowman allowed five runs (no earned) in her two innings of relief. At the plate, Perry reached base all four times, going 2-for-2 with a triple and three runs scored. King went 2-for-3 and Del Giorno 2-for-2 in the victory.
The Mount continues its 12-game homestand tomorrow with a home doubleheader against Maryland-Eastern Shore. The first game at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on campus begins at 2:30 p.m.
