EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 11, 2023) – Sitting on the outside looking in at present for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament, Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse faces league leader Fairfield at Waldron Family Stadium.
MOUNT UPDATE
Last Saturday, the Mount fell victim to a second half comeback by the Canisius Golden Griffins, dropping the game 11-10 in Buffalo. Now at 2-3 in league play, they stand tied for sixth place with Niagara.
Graduate captain
Julianna Sanchez has delivered on draw controls since being moved into the position the past two games. With 21 across the past week, the Annapolis, Maryland transfer is now second on the team behind
Logan Cook.
Sanchez and
Erin Anderson finished the Canisius game with hat tricks, but
Dani Donoghue still leads the team in goals with 28. Anderson added two assists, bumping her season total to 18.
SCOUTING THE STAGS
Fairfield boasts the top offense in the MAAC and ride a five-game win streak into Wednesday's meeting. They are the last undefeated team standing in the league.
With 169 goals scored, Elizabeth Talluto leads the Stags with 36 goals and 44 points. Out of the 80 team assists, Olivia Doody has the most with 23. As for the defense, Fairfield limits the competition to less than 10 goals per game, holding opponents to 196 shots on goal for the year. Lindsay Barnes has 30 caused turnovers, and Casey Collins has 75 saves.
ALL-TIME SERIES
On hiatus since 2009, the Mount trails Fairfield 4-3 in the all-time series. The Stags won the last three meetings from 2007-09, including the last contest by a 15-13 final.
