EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 24, 2023) – For the first time since 1998, Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse competes in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game, welcoming Niagara to Waldron Family Stadium.

The last time a game counted towards the MAAC standings was April 19th, 1998 – a 15-8 win over Manhattan. The following year, the Mount competed exclusively for the Northeast Conference, where they was stay until 2022.

MOUNT UPDATE

Mount St. Mary's is eager to leave the non-conference portion of the schedule behind them. A tough schedule, and injuries hurting the offense in particular hindered the team, leading to a 1-7 start. Last Wednesday, the Mount had to deal with a 17-5 decision at the hands of the Virginia Tech Hokies.

A recent positive mark has been Anna Salerno. The sophomore posted multi-goal efforts in back-to-back games for the first time as a Mountaineer. With seven goals, the Bel Air, Maryland player is third on the goal list with seven, trailing Abby Osmeyer and Dani Donoghue.

Goalkeeper Madison Bradley earned 10 saves in the Virginia Tech game, crossing double digits for the fourth time this season. The senior captain has played every minute in goal, earning 77 saves and snagging a team-high 24 ground balls.

SCOUTING THE PURPLE EAGLES

Bolstered by an offense averaging 12.33 goals per game, Niagara is two-thirds of the way towards their 2022 win total before MAAC play begins. A quarter of players provided the offense, with three of them (Lois Garlow, Lexi Braniecki, and Andra Savage) tied for the team lead in goals with 21. Rachel Crane is right behind them with 20 shots finding the back of the net. Supplying the assists is Riley Latray, with 22 of them to serve as the Purple Eagles' points leader with 30.

After a 5-1 start, the team dropped two of three over a challenging schedule. The one win came March 11th, a 12-11 overtime winner over Delaware at a neutral site tournament.

ALL-TIME SERIES

The Mountaineers lead the all-time series, 3-2, but the Purple Eagles have won the last two contests, defeating the Mount in back-to-back years (2016, 2017). In their most recent game, Niagara took the victory by a 15-11 score.
