MOUNT UPDATE: Mount St. Mary's opened the 2023 season by going 2-2 at the Chanticleer Showdown hosted by Coastal Carolina last weekend. The Mount posted a 2-0 shutout in the season opener against Saint Joseph's and was edged by UAlbany on the opening day of the tournament. The Mount earned a doubleheader split with Coastal Carolina on Sunday, rebounding from a 6-1 loss in the opening game with a 3-2 victory.
PERRY AND NEUHART COLLECT WEEKLY HONORS: Abigayle Perry and
Avery Neuhart collected Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference weekly honors after strong performances at Coastal Carolina. Perry was named the MAAC Player of the Week after hitting .700 (7-for-10) in the four game with a .786 on-base percentage and a 1.200 slugging percentage. Neuhart went 1-0 with a 0.68 ERA in two starts. She tossed a complete game, allowing one earned run, in the 3-2 win over Coastal Carolina.
MOUNT IN THE MAAC: Mount St. Mary's joined the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference this season after a 33-year stint in the Northeast Conference. The Mountaineers were selected to finish in sixth place in the MAAC Preseason Poll. Defending champion Canisius was picked first, followed by Marist, Fairfield, Iona, Siena, the Mount, Rider, Manhattan, Niagara, Saint Peter's and Quinnipiac.
PERRY HAS BIG WEEKEND: Abigayle Perry has started the 2023 season off with a bang. The junior hit .700 (7-for-10) in the Mount's four games at the Chanticleer Showdown hosted by Coastal Carolina. Perry reached base in 11 of her 14 plate appearances for a .786 on-base percentage, adding four runs, two doubles, a home run, three RBI, two steals and a 1.200 slugging percentage for the week.  Perry went 5-for-6 on the opening day in games vs. Saint Joseph's and UAlbany, including 3-for-3 with a three-run homer against the Great Danes. She was 2-for-3 in the Mount's 3-2 win over Coastal Carolina, who had a 13-1 record entering the game. Perry is currently leading the nation in on-base percentage (.786), is second in batting average (.700) and third in slugging percentage (1.200).
FINDING THE STRIKE ZONE:Â Sophomore pitcher
Olivia Murphy has shown great control since arriving at the Mount. Murphy has walked just 10 batters in 88.2 innings pitched as a Mountaineer. Last season, Murphy finished fourth in the nation, allowing 0.68 walks per seven innings pitched. Murphy has started the 2023 season with a 1-1 record and a 4.42 ERA in 6.1 innings of work. She has seven strikeouts with two walks for the year.
