EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 12, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo fell in two contests during Sunday's play of the Bucknell Invite. The Mountaineers fell to St. Francis Brooklyn, 11-8, and Princeton, 18-3, to fall to 3-2 in the early going.
Once again, it was graduate student
Annefleur ten Bloemendal leading the way on offense as one of two Mount players to score in both contests. The four-goal day included a hat trick against the Terriers.
Heather Lock was the other Mountaineer with tallies in both events, with one in each game. Lock also had five drawn exlcusions and four steals during the opener with SFC.
Emily Van Kerckhove also finished with a multi-goal game against the Brooklynites.
The start of the day looked promising as the Mount began with a 3-0 lead. But the Terriers posted four of the next five goals to forge a tie. Trailing 4-2, St. Francis Brooklyn scored seven in a row to seize control of the contest.
In the afternoon game, the 14
th ranked Princeton Tigers found the Mountaineers hanging tough with them in the first quarter. But then their defense kicked in, holding the Mount scoreless until the final frame.
Two weeks from now, the Mount competes in the Grove City Classic in Western Pennsylvania.
