EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 3, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo heads down the home stretch of the 2023 regular season with three matches on the road.
MOUNT UPDATE: Last weekend, the Mount fell to Wagner and Fordham in games played in New York City.
Chrysostomos Valavanis had the best offensive weekend, scoring nine times.
Joseph Maxson and
Sherif Hosni split time in the cage, with Hosni stopping 12 shots and Maxson 11.
Alexandros Bellesis maintains the team lead in goals with 61, followed by Valavanis with 54 and
Aaron Tarr with 48. Tarr also leads in assists with 43 and steals with 33. Valavanis continues to have the most drawn exclusions with 70.
THE COMPETITION: Navy holds the fourth place spot in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference with 10 points, with George Washington fifth at six points and Johns Hopkins holding sixth with two. JHU recently competed in the CWPA Division III Championship, defeating Penn State Behrend and Connecticut College before falling 12-8 to MIT. GW enters the weekend on a two-game losing streak after also falling to Wagner and Fordham on October 28. Navy saw a four-game triumphant snapped by the Rams too, and are also returning from three weeks away from competition.
PREVIOUS HISTORY: The Mountaineers have three wins against Johns Hopkins and a victory against Navy, which came last year. They are seeking their first win in six tries versus George Washington but have been close with a trio of one-goal losses.
UP NEXT: In two weeks, the MAWPC will hold their conference championships, hosted by Bucknell.
