EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 16, 2023) – Traveling to Bucknell this weekend, Mount St. Mary's men's water polo readies for the postseason with the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championships. Entering as the sixth seed, the Mount faces No. 3 Bucknell and will play in three contests over three days.
Games will be live streamed, and the public is welcome to attend. Both are $10 for a one-day pass and $25 for the entire tournament.
MOUNT UPDATE: The Mountaineers finished the regular season with a record of 7-20. Scoring 304 goals this season, the team had five who scored 20 or more, led by
Alexandros Bellesis with 65. Freshman
Aaron Tarr has the most assists with 47, and sophomore
Chrysostomos Valavanis finished with 86 of the team's 304 drawn exclusions.
Sherif Hosni and
Joseph Maxson hold the lion's share of time in the net, with Hosni edging Maxson in saves, 138-130.
THE FIELD: Fordham went a perfect 12-0 in conference play to earn the top spot and a bye in the first round of the tournament. Second seeded Navy was 9-3 and will face No. 7 Johns Hopkins in the opening round. Bucknell overtook Wagner for third place, giving the Seahawks an opening round match with No. 5 George Washington. The Mount received the tiebreaker over JHU due to goal differential within the conference.
UP NEXT: Opponents depend on how the Mountaineers fare in the tournament. A victory for all three games nets an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
