EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 5, 2023) – Diving back into Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference play, Mount St. Mary's men's water polo opens their 2023 home slate with three contests over the weekend.
MOUNT UPDATE: The Mountaineers stand 5-11 on the season after playing five contests in California. This included a 17-16 win over Westcliff where
Joseph Maxson recorded a school record of 18 saves in the game.
Nicholas Wallace-Whitfield had five assists in the victory and later earned his first career hat trick against Biola.
Alexandros Bellesis leads in goals (42), followed by
Aaron Tarr (31). Tarr leads the team in assists (29) and steals (24), while
Chrysostomos Valavanis has the most drawn exclusions (44).
THE COMPETITION: The trio of Bucknell, Wagner and George Washington each hold four points in the MAWPC standings. Bucknell has defeated GW and Johns Hopkins but are coming off a loss to Navy. Wagner also defeated the Blue Jays and managed to defeat the Midshipmen, 13-12, in their conference opener on September 10. The Revolutionaries have the most conference games under their belt with five. Both league wins for GW have been against Johns Hopkins.
PREVIOUS HISTORY: All three opponents have been conference foes since the second year of the program. Mount St. Mary's is seeking their first win against each one.
UP NEXT: Next weekend the Mount host Gannon (Oct. 13) and Johns Hopkins (Oct. 15) while also traveling to Bucknell (Oct. 14). Senior Day takes place before the Sunday contest with the Blue Jays.
