EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 27, 2023) – With the last competition 13 days behind them, Mount St. Mary's men's water polo looks to the final five games of the regular season. Up first are the pair of Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference teams based in New York City – Wagner and Fordham.
MOUNT UPDATE: Completing their home slate, the Mountaineers picked up a win over Gannon before dropping MAWPC games to Bucknell and Johns Hopkins. The team holds a 6-16 record on the season.
Alexandros Bellesis continues to hold the team lead in goals with 61.
Chrysostomos Valavanis picked up his 100
th career goal over the previous weekend, increasing his season total to 45.
Aaron Tarr stands third in goal with 42 but leads in assists with 38 and steals with 39.
THE COMPETITION: Fordham has amassed an unblemished record in conference, winning their first nine games in the league. In a recent trip to the West Coast, the Rams defeated #13 Cal Baptist and #17 Santa Clara, while coming within a goal of an upset of #4 Pepperdine.
Wagner has grinded out a 12-11 mark in 2023 with a 3-3 record in MAWPC play, including a victory over the Mount, 16-11. The Seahawks took three of four at the Harvard Invite, defeating Connecticut College, UC Merced, and Iona.
PREVIOUS HISTORY: Mount St. Mary's seeks their first victory against either team.
UP NEXT: The regular season wraps up November 4-5 when the Mount travels to Johns Hopkins, George Washington, and Navy.
