EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 29, 2023) – Facing a field that featured the top 11 finishers from a year ago, the Mount St. Mary's bowling team – playing with a shorthanded roster – picked up six wins in 13 games, leaving Texas with a gutsy, positive effort.
Wins over the weekend include four against current top ten opponents - #2 North Carolina A&T, #3 Vanderbilt, #7 Youngstown State, and #9 Louisiana Tech. The remaining pair of victories came against the hosts Prairie View A&M.
Senior
Amanda Yeung was the top performer on the final day. In the last traditional game, Yeung rolled a 226, then followed with a 20.20 bracket baker average. Freshman
Gianna McGahan added a 19.40 baker frame average, and junior
Alyssa Alexander rolled a 19.10 average.
After securing five wins through the first two days, the Mount had one more qualifying round in the last traditional matchup with #5 Stephen F. Austin. The LadyJacks got revenge on the Mountaineers, who had beaten them in the past two tournaments. After Yeung's 226, the next highest score was
Trishelle Leal Uribe and her total of 188.
In bracket play, the Mount faced off with the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights first. The two sides traded win as the Mount leveled the score with a 187. But after FDU took game three and edged the Mount 190-188 in game four, they buried any hopes of a comeback with a 264.
The tournament ended on a high note against the host Panthers. Mount St. Mary's crossed the 200 threshold three times in the finale, propelling them to a sweep. A 201-193 juggernaut match capped off the weekend.
Entering the home stretch on the season, the Mount has three regular season tournaments left. Next up is the James Brown Invitational from February 10
