EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 26, 2022) – Looking to turn a five-game win streak into six, Mount St. Mary's men's water polo travels to the state capital to challenge Navy.
MOUNT UPDATE
The Mountaineers stand 8-3 (3-2 MAWPC) this year after a perfect 4-0 record in Erie this past weekend. Paired with a win over Mercyhurst September 18
th, the team boasts five consecutive wins and the best start in program history.
With 55 goals,
Tommaso Baldineti leads the Mount in scoring, adding 32 assists and 17 steals along the way. Registering 10 goals against Gannon, Baldineti also reset the program records for scores in a game.
Kiahi Horan holds the team lead in steals with 21,
Chrysostomos Valavanis in drawn exclusions with 21, and
Alexandros Bellesis in field blocks with nine – five of them in the past weekend.
SCOUTING THE MIDSHIPMEN
Navy is 5-6 on the year but has yet to play in an MAWPC game. Playing a challenging schedule, the Mids went 1-2 at UC Davis' Aggie Roundup. Taking defeats against #3 USC and #10 San Jose State, they scrapped in an 11-9 victory over Occidental.
Michael Heller leads in scoring with 15 goals and Ivan Pang leads with 11 assists. Goalkeeper Caden Capobianco has tallied 102 saves and 35 steals, both team highs.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Navy has won both previous contests over the Mount – an 18-6 game in October 2021 and a 13-10 score one month later.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Mount St. Mary's returns to non-conference showdowns at the Gary Troyer Tournament in California. Opponents on the slate are Chapman, Biola, La Verne and Cal Baptist.
