Mount St. Mary's returns to Waldron Family Stadium on Thursday night to host Radford in a non-conference matchup.  The Mountaineers own an 0-1-2 record so far this season and are coming off a 2-0 loss at Towson on Sunday evening.

MOUNT UPDATE:  Mount St. Mary's is 0-0-1 this season after a 1-1 draw in the season opener against Western Carolina.  The Mount's game on Sunday at Bucknell was declared a no contest after lightning forced a cancellation at halftime.  Goalkeeper Arden Lembryk made eight saves in the Mount's 1-1 tie with Western Carolina, including a terrific stop in the closing seconds to preserve the tie.  Freshman Nicole Wilson scored the Mount's goal with assists going to Maevyn Jones and Taylor Simmons.

ABOUT RADFORD:  Radford enters Thursday's matchup with a 2-1-1 record this season.  The Highlanders fell to Concord, 2-1, at home in the season opener and followed with a 1-1 draw with George Mason.  Last week, Radford posted a 2-1 win at Hampton and a 3-0 victory at home versus Wofford.  Amy Swain leads the team with two goals while Kat Parris has a goal and an assist.  Jordan Phillips has started three games in goal (1.33 GAA, .636 save pct.) while Trinity Veras made five saves in the clean sheet victory over Wofford.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES WITH RADFORD:  Radford holds a 6-0-0 advantage in the all-time series with the Mount that dates back to 1997.  Last year, Radford downed the Mount, 3-2 in overtime, in the season opener.  The Mountaineers are 0-3-0 against Radford at home, including a 2-0 loss on August 25, 2019, in the last matchup at Waldron Family Stadium.

THE MOUNT VS. THE BIG SOUTH:  Mount St. Mary's is 4-22-1 all-time against Big South opponents.  Last year, the Mount went 0-2 against the Big South, falling to Radford (3-2, ot) and Campbell (4-1).  Against current Big South members, the Mount is 0-6 vs. Radford, 0-2 vs. Campbell and 1-2-1 against High Point.  Mount records against former Big South schools are 0-3 vs. Towson, 0-5 vs. UMBC, 1-3 vs. Liberty, 0-1 vs. Elon and 2-0 vs. VMI.

LAST YEAR'S MEETING:  Radford edged the Mount, 3-2, in overtime in the season opener last season.  Madison Bee scored with 19 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, but Radford's Kat Parris scored 2:05 into the second overtime to lift her team to the win.  Radford's Brianna Oliver scored the first goal of the game, but the Mount's Kalli Bell countered to even the score.  Amy Swain put Radford ahead on a feed from Parris, who finished the contest with a goal and two assists.  Maggie Barron made seven saves for the Mount in the game while Lauren Seedlock had three saves for the Highlanders.

FAMILIAR FACE:  Mount St. Mary's graduate transfer Maevyn Jones will be facing her former squad when the Mount and Radford meet on Thursday night.  Jones appeared in 66 games for Radford from 2018-22, tallying nine goals and four assists.  Jones played 17 minutes in last year's game against the Mount, registering one shot.  Jones has played in all three games this season for the Mount, recording an assist in the Mount's 1-1 tie against Western Carolina.

WELCOME TO THE MAAC:  In addition to having a new head coach, the Mount will also be competing in a new conference this season.  Mount St. Mary's was announced as the 11th member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) on May 2 after a 33-year run in the Northeast Conference.  The Mountaineers were picked ninth in the annual MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll.  Quinnipiac was tabbed as the league favorite, followed by Niagara, Fairfield, Siena, Iona, Marist, Rider, Manhattan, the Mount, Canisius and Saint Peter's.

MAAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  It did not take the Mountaineers long to earn a weekly award in their new conference.  Goalkeeper Arden Lembryk was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after making eight saves in the Mount's 1-1 draw with Western Carolina in the season opener.  Lembryk made a key stop in the closing seconds to preserve the tie.

HEAD COACH MELISSA SHERWOOD:  Head coach Melissa Sherwood begins her first season at the Mount with this weekend's pair of games.  Sherwood, hired in January, previously was the Associate Head Coach at Northwestern State, helping lead the Lady Demons to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005.  Sherwood was the head coach at Saint Peter's for four years (2016-19).

UP NEXT:  The Mount will host Hampton on Saturday, September 10, at 1:00 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium.
