EMMITSBURG, Md. (June 23, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's baseball alumnus
Jeff Koenig, Class of 2002, and Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2020, passed away June 18 after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. He was 43 years old.
One of the premier power hitters for the Mount baseball program, Koenig transferred to the Mount in his junior season. Over two seasons, he belted 26 home runs, tied for third-most in program history. His 16 long balls as a senior are second most for one year and paved the way to earn First Team All-Northeast Conference honors. Those homers drove up his slugging percentage to .633, second-best for any Mountaineer to don the uniform.
A top performer in the classroom as well, he was a Verizon Academic First Team All-District player in 2002. That combined with several academic awards achieved during his high school years at Parkdale in College Park, Md.
He is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Erin LaMotte, Mount HOF Class of 2017 for women's lacrosse, and three sons, Brady, Lane, and Riggins.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Jeff to benefit his boys' future education. Please make donations payable to CollegeAmerica. On the memo line please include "LaMotte529." Mail to Janney Montgomery Scott, c/o Velnoskey Wealth Management Group at 15 E. Mainstreet Suite 218, Westminster, MD 21157.
