Baseball Sees Winning Streak Slip in Defeat to Bryant

EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 29, 2022) – Two victories in a row were on the line as the Mount St. Mary's baseball team faced off against the defending Northeast Conference champions. Bryant, however, took the lead early and rode the momentum to a 9-1 win Friday.

The Mountaineers scattered nine hits against Bulldogs pitching, with Aiden Tierney earning two safeties. Tristan McAlister drove in the team's lone run with an eighth inning groundout to score Giovanni Calamia.

Gutting out 121 pitches, Luke Pryor took in a hard luck start, as Bryant found spots in the grass for 10 hits off the Mount starter. The visitors also managed runs off the two relievers that followed. But in the field, both teams went unblemished as no errors were charged during the contest.

Bryant took control in the first inning. Derek Smith brought in a run off a single and Logan Allen sent another in on a fielder's choice. The lead extended to 8-0 including home runs in the second and seventh innings.

Leadoff hitter Matt Woods registered four hits for the Bulldogs, and power hitter Alex Lane added three. Starter Collin Lowe went seven shutout innings, striking out nine.

Mount St. Mary's and Bryant meet for game two at E.T. Straw Family Stadium at 1 p.m. Saturday (Apr. 29).
