LEWISBURG, Pa. (April 23, 2022) – The second season of Mount St. Mary's women's water polo concluded Saturday with a pair of defeats to Saint Francis U and Bucknell, resulting in a seventh place finish at the 2022 Collegiate Water Polo Association Championships.
The Red Flash defeated the Mount by a 13-7 score, and Bucknell showed no mercy in the 27-9 result during the afternoon.
Robyn Currie and
Ana Luisa Cotta took charge of goal scoring on the final day. The freshman Currie led with six total scores, followed by Cotta with five. Both took a turn as the leader for a game, each tallying four in a single contest.
Rebecca Valentine joined them as a multi-goal scorer, finding the back of the net twice against SFU.
Emily Van Kerckhove took primary responsibility for the net, logging seven saves on the day.
Sibley Kuder chipped in three stops in the Bucknell game.
Saint Francis U took hold of the opening contest with a strong second and third quarter. After getting outscored 8-2 and trailing 11-3 entering the last period, the Mount battled in a 4-2 frame that closed the gap to six at the final horn.
Any hopes to move up the championship standings faded in the first quarter with the Bison. The hosts bookended eight goal quarters, never letting up on the Mountaineers.
Mount St. Mary's completes their season with a record of 8-26.
