Shorthanded Mountaineers Fall to Harvard in First CWPA Round

LEWISBURG, Pa. (April 22, 2022) – Inhibited by a lack of goalkeepers, Mount St. Mary's enters the Collegiate Water Polo Association Championships shorthanded. Despite Emily Van Kerckhove stepping up to fill the void, the Mount was outmatched by the Harvard Crimson in a 16-0 shutout.

Van Kerckhove stopped six shutouts in her debut as the net minder, adding a steal.

Shutout by Harvard for the second time this season, the Mount made 15 attempts at the goal. Ana Luisa Cotta led the effort with five shots, while creating three turnovers on steals.

Counter attacks and penalties aided the production of the Crimson offense. Harvard took advantage of Mount's turnovers to score seven goals, and five of the seven exclusions called on the Mountaineers resulted in penalties – all of which ended in scores.

Saturday games for the Mount take place at 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., with opponents determined as games play out during Friday.
