Defense Stands Tall, But Bucknell Gets Victory

EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 2, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's hopes for two straight Collegiate Water Polo Association wins ran headlong into the Bucknell defense. The Mount's defensive effort rose to the occasion as well, but the Bison scored enough to secure a 7-4 win.

Samantha Bright denied 11 shots in the win, and three of the team's six steals. A hat trick from Rebecca Valentine accounted for 75 percent of the offense, with Ana Luisa Cotta adding a fourth in the fourth quarter.

Bucknell took charge of the contest early, scoring three times while holding the Mount scoreless. Valentine's first tally with 5:20 in the second quarter put the Mountaineers on the board, leading to a 5-1 Bison halftime advantage.

Mount St. Mary's played tough on defense with ideas of a comeback. Limiting Bucknell to two scores over the final 16 minutes, they managed the win the second half, three goals to two.

Two more contests await the Mount Sunday morning, facing host Princeton and Michigan.
