MT. JOY, Pa. (February 6, 2022) – The Mount Bowling team picked up three more wins on Sunday to remain tied with Sacred Heart atop Northeast Conference standings. The lone loss came to the Pioneers, while the ladies picked up wins over St. Francis Brooklyn, #15 nationally ranked Fairleigh Dickinson, and #17 Long Island.
Senior
Rebecca Dodson continued her terrific weekend, posting an 888 four game series (222.0 average.) Sophomore
Alyssa Alexander was also strong in the third spot, rolling an 870 four game total (217.5 average). Senior
Danielle Milo provided a huge lift off the bench in matches three and four with a 421 two game total (210.5 average).
#9 Mount: 1,031 | #19 Sacred Heart: 1,084
The Mountaineers only two conference losses on the season both came at the hands of the Pioneers, as SHU caught fire for a 1,084 despite a strong 1,031 from MSM. Dodson gave it her all with a 248 and three other Mountaineers posted over 200 in the first loss of the weekend.
#9 Mount: 920 | St. Francis Brooklyn: 828
It was not pretty, but the Mount found just enough fire power in the back half to overcome an upset bid from the Terriers of SFC. Alexander and Dodson both posted identical 201 scores with key ball changes for both down the stretch. Thanks to an SFU upset over Sacred Heart, the ladies found themselves tied with the Pioneers in standings once again following the victory.
#9 Mount: 1,063 | #15 Fairleigh Dickinson: 1,048
The Mountaineers won an absolute classic against #15 FDU in match three. Both teams were hot and neither team could build a lead over 30-pins. Once again, the Mount used a strong eight thru tenth frames to complete a dramatic comeback victory and advance to 2-1 on the day. Alexander led the charge with a 243, while Milo posted a 224. Senior
Kayla Durbala (213) and Dodson (205) were also instrumental in the victory.
#9 Mount: 1,021 | #19 Long Island: 887
Although tough to tell from the final score, The Mount trailed entering the back half of their match with #19 LIU before once again catching fire. Dodson (234), Alexander (223), and senior
Tamera Stanton (201) posted big finishes for MSM in the win.
"We were a little shorthanded today, but our bench stepped up as we expected they would," said head coach
Kenneth DeGraaf. "I am beyond proud of Danielle and Kayla for coming in big after sitting all of yesterday. We needed every ounce of energy they gave us. Rebecca and Alyssa were tremendous, while Tamera found ways to bring bad starts back time and time again. Our preference is to play on longer oil patterns and that is what NEC #3 will be on, so hopefully we can find a way to capture the regular season crown come March. Regardless, our ladies put together another great weekend in what has been a memorable season thus far."
With their 6-1 weekend, the Mountaineers find themselves tied atop conference standings with Scared Heart at 12-2. However, the Mountaineers will need to find a way to break the tie if they want to capture the conference crown as the Pioneers will hold any tie break scenario due to their two wins over MSM to date.
