EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 4, 2022) – After taking the season sweep of Merrimack Thursday, Mount St. Mary's women's basketball goes for all four games versus the Northeast Conference's New England schools when they challenge Bryant Saturday.
THE MATCHUP
Earning a 68-52 victory on January 15
th, the Mount leveled the all-time series over the Bulldogs at 13 games apiece. The win also extends the team's streak to three games dating back to January 2020.
One interesting note from this series is how close the early games played out. In the first 10 contests between the two sides, four went into overtime. Mount and Bryant split those four games.
MOUNTAINEER REPORT
The win over Merrimack forged a three-way tie between Mount St. Mary's, Saint Francis U and Wagner. Based on tiebreakers, the Mount ranks third in the group thanks to a head-to-head defeat to the Red Flash and a loss by forfeiture to the Seahawks.
Kendall Bresee reached 1,000 points in her career with a pair of free throws in the fourth quarter Thursday, combining totals from George Washington and the Mount. The graduate student was one of four Mountaineers to hit double figures in the win over the Warriors, with
Kayla Agentowicz,
Isabella Hunt, and
Michaela Harrison joining her.
Following an 0-6 start away from Emmitsburg to begin the campaign, the Mount is now eyeing their fourth straight triumph away from home.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Bryant assisted the Mount with a key win over Saint Francis U Thursday, stalling a three-game win streak for themselves. The Bulldogs limited the Red Flash to 21.2 percent from the floor. While on offense, Fatou Jallow and Mariona Planes Fortuny led the team with 13 points each.
For the season, Brooke Bjelko continues to guide Bryant with 13.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
With a record of 4-7, the Bulldogs stand ninth overall in the NEC and eighth in tournament seeding once Merrimack is discounted. But a string of victories would easily propel the Rhode Islanders up the leaderboard.
LOOKING AHEAD
Returning to Knott Arena Thursday (Feb. 10), the Mount hosts Wagner in a pivotal matchup.
