Box Score Stanford, Calif. (February 27, 2022)--Mount St. Mary's closed out the DeMarini Invitational with a 9-1 loss to California on Sunday.
The Bears scored two times in the top of the first and then added five more in the second to take control of the game. Sona Halajian provided most of the power for California in the two innings, knocking home the game's first run with an RBI double in the first. She then capped the five-run second with a three-run homer.
The Mount got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning.
Mariah Godde opened the inning with a single, moved to third base on a pair of outs, and then scored on
Kaia Bonshock's single up the middle. Cal scored twice in the top of the fifth to seal the win.
Amaya Bowman started for the Mountaineers, allowing seven runs (two earned) in two innings of work.
Amanda Berkley pitched the final three frames, allowing two runs (one earned).
Vanessa Martin also had a hit in today's game for the Mount.
The Mountaineers have faced a tough early schedule with the past six games coming against Power 5 opponents (NC State, Stanford and California two times each). The Mount has lost six in a row to fall to 2-7 on the season.
