EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 26, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's women's water polo received a rude welcome from the Harvard Crimson in their first-ever meeting. The Crimson blanked the Mountaineers by a 18-0 final, sending the Mount's record to 4-11 (0-2 CWPA).
Harvard raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter and scored another eight before halftime to put the game out to reach. They would slow down on the offensive end for the second half but held the Mount's offense at bay for the full 32 minutes.
On defense, three Mountaineers –
Madison Szczublewski,
Mara Davis and
Hannah Keyser – tallied steals. Keyser split saves with
Sibley Kuder, earning three each. As a unit, the Mount drew five exclusions but got charged with nine, including two penalties.
Saturday's defeat marks the second shutout in program history. The first was a 16-0 loss to Michigan in the Collegiate Water Polo Association tournament last season.
The Mount looks to rebound Sunday with games against Saint Francis U and Bucknell.
