Baseball Begins 141st Season, Faces Lehigh in Four Game Series

MOUNT ST. MARY'S VS. LEHIGH
Saturday, February 26th-Sunday, February 27th
Noon Doubleheaders
Colonial Heights, Va. | Shepherd Stadium

EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 25, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's launches a new era of baseball this weekend, challenging Lehigh in a four game series outside Richmond.

ABOUT THE MOUNT

Frank Leoni leads a revitalized crew of Mountaineers, taking the helm as the 27th head coach in school history. Leoni brings three decades of experience to Emmitsburg, with stops at Rhode Island, William & Mary and Marymount. Cullen Moore jumped on staff as the pitching coach, with Aaron Tarr and Cal Berman serve as new assistant coaches.

The team features an almost even split between returners and newcomers. Players familiar to the Mount include Catoctin grad Ryan Fisher, catcher Thomas Bramley and outfielder Brady Drawbaugh. All three figure to be fixtures in the starting lineup. On the bump, returning players include Bryant Shives, Ryan Ament and Luke Pryor, to name a few.

Incoming players are highlighted by UMBC transfer reliever Cooper Adams, JUCO transfer Tristan McAlister and Longwood transfer Aiden Tierney.

ABOUT LEHIGH

Lehigh kicked off their season last weekend, taking one in a three game set with Davidson. First year Jake Whitlinger impressed in his first collegiate series, going 6-for-11 with three walks, three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Pitchers combined for a 6.48 ERA, paced by four shutout innings by starter Luke Rettig.

The team is coming off a Patriot League title run in 2021, falling in the championship to Army. Their overall record finished at 24-19 with a 17-10 mark in conference play.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES

The Mountain Hawks hold a 6-5 series lead over the Mountaineers. They last met in 2019, as Lehigh took two out of three. The Mount won the opener by an 8-6 final.

ON DECK

Mount St. Mary's travels to Beaumont, Texas for a four-game series with Lamar March 4th-6th.
