Mount Swimming & Diving Fit to Challenge VMI

Emmitsburg, Md. (November 3, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's swimming and diving teams travel to Lexington, Virginia this weekend to challenge VMI in a dual meet.
 
About the Mount
The Mountaineers' swim and dive team competed very well in their home-opener over the weekend. The men's team posted their first win of the season and no better place than at home as they won 166-112. The women's team wasn't as fortunate as they lost in a close meet 166-111.
 
The men's swimming and diving team had two simmers post school records in junior Jason Fitch and sophomore Aidan Grady. Fitch broke his previous record in the 100-meter backstroke (58.94) set on October 23, 2021, posting a new record time of 57.98. Grady broke the 200-meter breaststroke record previously held by John Wilson (2:26.30), posting a record time of 2:24.36.
 
Dahna Yoon of the women's swimming and diving team won two individual events in the 100-metter butterfly (1:06.97) along with the 200-meter butterfly (2:25.72). Sophomore Meghan Speicher had an amazing come from behind win in the 400-meter freestyle, gaining the lead in the final two laps of the event, posting the first-place time at 4:40.15.
 
Scouting the Cadets
The Keydets men's team is 0-2 on the season notching losses at Gardener-Webb 53-209 and at Howard 62-162. The men's team seems to show strength in the diving competition and the freestyle events.
 
The Keydets women's team is also 0-2 on the season notching losses against Gardener-Webb 45-207 and Howard 52-172.  
 
All-Time Series
Mount St. Mary's men's swimming and diving sits at 2-6 in favor of VMI. The last meet was on October 23, 2021. 11 team-records were set during the meet as the Mount women's team won 204-91, while the men's team won 184-114. The women's record stands at a perfect 17-0 against VMI.
 
Upcoming
The Mount swimming and diving teams travel to Lancaster, Pa. on November 17 through the 19th to compete in the Franklin and Marshall Invitational.
