EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 17, 2022) – Listed as the seventh seed, Mount St. Mary's men's water polo travels to Fordham University, host site of the 2022 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championships.
With the first five teams of the 11-team tournament securing byes, the #7 Mountaineers square off with #10 Johns Hopkins. The winner of the game plays #2 George Washington later in the evening.
MOUNT UPDATE
The regular season ended November 6
th with the Mount finishing an even 13-13. Scoring a total of 390 goals at a 43 percent rate, the team was led by
Tommaso Baldineti with 127. Baldineti also led in assists (63) and drawn exclusions (52), while
Kiahi Horan led with 60 steals.
Alexandros Bellesis had the most field blocks with 22.
Joseph Maxson earned 182 of the team's saves, followed by
Sherif Hosni with 79.
THE OPPONENTS
Hosts Fordham went undefeated in conference play at a perfect 16-0. Championship seeding was determined by win percentage, allowing George Washington to take the second spot at .875 (14-2). Bucknell and Wagner are tied for third, but the Bison took the #3 spot on head-to-head. The field after that is #5 Salem, #6 Navy, #7 Mount, #8 McKendree, #9, Gannon, #10 Johns Hopkins and #11 Mercyhurst.
LAST YEAR AT THE CHAMPIONSHIPS
In an eight-team field, Mount St. Mary's dropped three contests at the 2021 tournament, falling to Fordham 20-6, Bucknell 17-11 and Johns Hopkins 9-7.
