EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 31, 2022) – Taking on best-of-seven Baker brackets for the first time this season, Mount St. Mary's bowling maintained their sixth place position at the Dezy Strong Invite. The Mount split with #17 Tulane and suffered a defeat to #4 Stephen F. Austin.
The sixth place showing put the Mount in the top third of a difficult field of contenders and the team finished top among the challengers from the Northeast region.
Senior
Amanda Yeung set the pace with a 19.75 Baker frame average to lead the Mountaineers. Freshman
Aliza Shirk added a 18.82 average, followed by junior
Alyssa Alexander with a 18.61. Coming off the bench, freshman
Laney Wells had a strong finish with a turkey and a nine spare.
#11 Mount: 4 (217-202-162-211-216) | #17 Tulane: 1 (169-177-171-195-202)
Starting the day off strong, the Mountaineers rolled a five-game score of 1,008 to advance up the bracket over the Green Wave.
Trishelle Leal Uribe took the leadoff spot, and with Shirk and Alexander on the back end the Mount posted four games over the 200 mark, including the 216 at the end to edge Tulane's 202 effort.
#11 Mount: 1 (146-175-198-186-184) | #4 Stephen F. Austin: 4 (155-198-190-207-193)
Picking an inopportune time to post their lowest score on the day, the Mount missed a chance to get a head start on the 2022 ITC Champions in a 155-146 game. Scores would improve for both squads, but SFA managed to stay one step ahead of the Mount in every round except the third.
#11 Mount: 2 (173-158-176-176-174-156) | #17 Tulane: 4 (165-155-200-207-197-228)
Reshuffling the lineup paid off in the early goings as MSM edged Tulane in the first two contests of the fifth place meeting. But the team succumbed to a surge by the Green Wave, as they averaged a 208 across the last four games to take the match.
Next weekend, Mount St. Mary's travels to the Richmond area, competing in the Virginia Union Invitational.
