EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 28, 2022) – The final push for the men's water polo regular season has begun with five contests remaining. Three of those games are this weekend on the road as Mount St. Mary's takes on Wagner and Fordham in New York Saturday, followed by George Washington Sunday.

MOUNT UPDATE

Entering the weekend, Mount St. Mary's holds a 13-8 overall record and a 6-5 mark for Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference play, putting them in fifth place in the standings. Prior to a week away from competition, the Mount played games at home, dropping a 12-8 decision to Bucknell before taking a 15-14 victory over Navy. Alexandros Bellesis tallied the winning goal in the final seconds.

Tommaso Baldineti made the Cutino Watch List during the break, one of 20 players in the nation to do so. The recipient of this award is recognized as the top water polo player in the nation. In 20 games this season, the sophomore has 111 goals, 55 assists, 40 steals and 34 drawn exclusions. He has tallied multi-goal games 18 times, 17 of those being hat tricks.

THE OPPONENTS

Fordham is on top of the standings with an unblemished 11-0 record. Competing against Navy last weekend, the Rams sealed a 14-7 win. Thomas Lercari recorded 15 saves and Luca Silvestri and Balazs Berenyi contributed hat tricks in the game.

George Washington sits in second place at 10-1 as their lone defeat came against Fordham on October 15th. Theodoros Patreos joins Baldineti on the Cutino Watch List, registering 90 goals out of the team's 330 for the year.

Wagner is closest to the Mount in the standings, piecing together an 8-5 record for fourth place and riding a four-game winning streak. Last weekend the team delivered a 13-11 conference win over Navy and an 18-8 non-conference final over LIU. Laszlo Strasser leads the Seahawks with 62 goals.

ALL-TIME SERIES

A victory for the Mount would be against any of the three teams. They are 0-2 against Wagner, 0-3 with the Colonials and 0-5 with Fordham.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

The final MAWPC weekend sees Wagner coming to Emmitsburg November 5th for the home finale, followed by a road contest at Bucknell November 6th.
