EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 13, 2022) – Critical positioning for the Mount St. Mary's men's water polo teams is on the line in two Saturday showdowns. Third place Bucknell is the first game followed by sixth place Navy later that evening.

MOUNT UPDATE

Going 2-1 last weekend, the Mount defeated Johns Hopkins twice and took George Washington to the brink of their first conference defeat. Tommaso Baldineti earned Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Player of the Week on Wednesday with 21 goals and a 60 percent scoring rate. Baldineti also crossed 100 goals on the season in the second Hopkins win.

In the current standings, Mount St. Mary's sits in a tie for fourth with Wagner at 5-4. Bucknell sits one position ahead and Navy lurks two positions behind. For the MAWPC tournament in November, the top five seeds get first-round byes, so these games are pivotal to determine seeding for next month's event.

THE OPPONENTS

Bucknell stands at 10-8 (7-3 MAWPC) and Navy is 9-9 (4-3 MAWPC). Aleksa Stefanovic logged 47 goals for the Bison so far this season, with 80 saves from Adrien Touzot. Jake Altmayer and Will Clark lead a balanced Midshipmen attack with 18 goals each. Caden Capobianco brings 128 saves on the season to Emmitsburg.

The Bison had the inverse results of the Mount, losing twice to George Washington and defeating Johns Hopkins once. Navy went 3-1 at the CWPA Crossover Weekend, beating Gannon, Mercyhurst and McKendree before faltering in overtime to Salem.

ALL-TIME SERIES

The Mount is seeking their first wins over both schools. Coming into the weekend they are 0-3 against both Bucknell and Navy. On September 27th, the Midshipmen defeated the Mount 16-13.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

A tough test comes in two weeks, with road matches against Wagner, Fordham, and George Washington.
