#9 Mount: 959 | #18 Maryland Eastern Shore: 1022
Eastern Shore got off to a hot start with nine out of ten strikes in the first ten frames. MSM rallied to make it interesting, but costly opens down the stretch would prove too much to overcome. Yeung led the way with a 237.
#9 Mount: 1,151 | Prairie View A&M: 887
A new program record for highest traditional set powered the Mountaineers over the Panthers of Prairie View A&M. Milo (267), Stanton (257), Dodson (225), Yeung (201) and Alexander (201) all eclipsed the 200 mark in the victory.
#9 Mount: 1,088 | #13 Tulane: 1,011
The Mount went back-to-back sets over 1,000 for the first time on the weekend in a big win over the Tulane Green Wave. Yeung (259) and Dodson (234) paced the Mountaineers.
#9 Mount: 884 | Grambling State: 630
Lanes 55-56 proved to be the toughest scoring pair in the house and The Mount was no exception, grinding out an 884-630 win over Grambling State in their lowest set of the weekend. Yeung (212) was the lone Mountaineer to cross the 200 plateau.
#9 Mount: 1,040 | #10 Stephen F. Austin: 1,045
After jumping out to a near 100-pin lead, the Mount fell victim to a dramatic comeback from the Ladyjacks of SFA. All five SFA bowlers would strike in the eighth and ninth frames to gain pins back in a hurry while the Mount gave away some missed makeable spares to drop to 3-2 on the day.
"On paper, today was a good day," said head coach
Kenneth DeGraaf. "However, I feel this program is at the point where we can raise the bar to the elite level. It's going to take belief and spare shooting. Those two things would have made us 5-0 today and probably 4-0 yesterday. We left so much out there and yet we have a chance to win one of the tougher tournaments on the NCAA schedule tomorrow. The next 24 hours are all about doing whatever we can to achieve those two things tomorrow."
Competition will resume with three rounds of bracket play tomorrow in the best-of-seven baker format. The top four teams, including MSM, will have a chance at the tournament title. The Mountaineers will play the #3 seed Vanderbilt to open competition with the winner moving up in the bracket to play the loser of the match between top seeds Stephen F. Austin and McKendree. Play begins at 8:00 a.m. Pacific time and can be streamed live on FloBowling.com ($).
