EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 22, 2022) – The Northeast Conference's two leading scorers – Kendall Bresee of Mount St. Mary's and Ashley Berube of Central Connecticut – meet for the first time this season as the Mountaineers travel to deal with the Blue Devils.

Bresee, defending her NEC Player of the Year crown, leads the conference with 15.5 points per game. Berube registers 15 per game, staying within heel-striking distance of the Mount's graduate student.

THE MATCHUP

The Mount's six game win streak over CCSU is the longest active streak for the team against any NEC opponent. Playing both meetings at Knott Arena last year, the Mountaineers dominated in a sweep. Bresee and Michaela Harrison contributed 20+ point efforts in a 95-61 win last January 24th.

Central Connecticut's last win in the series came in January 2017 – a 68-58 triumph in New Britain. Kiana Patterson scored 20 for the Blue Devils that evening.

MOUNTAINEER REPORT

Thanks to large measure to a career-high 16 points from Tess Borgosz, the Mount captured their first road victory this year in a 60-51 defeat of Sacred Heart. A 12-0 run to open proceedings helped the visitors earn a wire-to-wire finish. Bresee led all scorers with 17.

The win pushed the team's record to 4-3 in NEC play, forcing a five-way tie for second place. Included in that crowd are Wagner, Saint Francis U, Sacred Heart and St. Francis Brooklyn. Fairleigh Dickinson is holding down first place with a 6-1 mark.

Mount continues to lead the conference in shooting with a .444 field goal percentage and a .389 three-point percentage.

SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS

CCSU is looking to escape from the basement of the NEC standings where they have resided for a couple seasons. A forfeit decision in their favor of St. Francis Brooklyn and a win over Merrimack delivered early promise, but they have since lost three in a row to stand at 2-5 in the conference.

Key performers aside from Berube – their leading scorer and rebounder – are point guard Forever Toppin (8.5 ppg, 3.4 asts.) and redshirt freshman guard Belle Lampher (8.4 ppg).

LOOKING AHEAD

Mount St. Mary's returns home to face NEC leader Fairleigh Dickinson on January 27th. The 5 p.m. start will air nationwide on ESPNU.
