EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 14, 2022) – The Northeast Conference's two northernmost schools take their longest road trips of the season this weekend to compete in Maryland. Mount St. Mary's first challenger is Bryant during a Saturday matinee.

THE MATCHUP

Bryant made the jump to Division I for the 2009-10 season, and after some early Mountaineers success, this series is at a near-even split, with the Bulldogs holding a 13-12 edge. Last season, the Mount secured an impressive sweep, winning a back-to-back home series by 38 points each.

Michaela Harrison scored a career high 35 points and set a school record for three-pointers in a game during the team's 92-54 win on February 20th. That point total ties for the fourth best individual scoring performance in team history with Kim Rhock, who achieved the feat twice in the 1989-90 season.

MOUNTAINEER REPORT

The Mount split against the Brooklyn squads to open a four game homestand that kicked off the new year. Kendall Bresee recorded double-doubles in back-to-back games, including 11 points and 10 rebounds in the 70-54 win over Long Island. Bresee now has 13 such outings in her Mount career, placing her in a ninth-place tie on the team's all-time list.

Harrison led all Mountaineers scorers with 34 points over the two games, including 25 points versus LIU. Tallying eight triples across the weekend, she now stands five shy of the program record.

Mount St. Mary's holds eighth in the NEC standings, sharing the spot with Saint Francis U. Two reasons for the sluggish start include the two forfeitures in late December and constant juggling of starting lineups for various reasons. The Mount employed their fifth different opening set of players, eclipsing the number of lineups used last season.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS

Bryant comes into Emmitsburg with a 2-2 record to open NEC play, including a 69-57 win over Fairleigh Dickinson last Saturday. Graduate center Brooke Bjelko continues to impress following a strong senior year, averaging 13.7 points and 8.3 rebounds this season. The Bulldogs also see significant contributions from Mariona Plantes Fortuny with 8.6 points and 5.7 boards, and Alana Perkins, posting double figures in scoring with 11.3 per game.

Led by Mary Burke, at the helm in Smithfield for her 31st season, the Bulldogs are looking to improve from their eighth place finish in 2020-21, after going 5-12 in conference.

UPDATED FAN POLICY

• Concessions and alcohol sales will NOT BE AVAILABLE for the upcoming homestand of women's basketball games.
• Courtside seating has been removed to help maintain the health and safety of our team and community.
