EMMITSBURG, Md. (August 5, 2021) – First-year Mount St. Mary's baseball coach
Frank Leoni announces his coaching staff for the 2022 season.
Cullen Moore comes to Emmitsburg as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, as are assistants
Aaron Tarr and
Cal Berman.
Moore was a member of Leoni's staff at Marymount and makes the transition to Mount St. Mary's with his head coach. He assisted the Saints for three seasons – two as a graduate assistant and the Director of Pitching and Recruiting Coordinator in 2021. Duties also included practice and game day management, travel administration and overseeing academics and community service.
He took charge of guiding the pitchers as a graduate assistant in 2019, helping the Saints lead the Atlantic East Conference in strikeouts with 314. Two of his pitchers garnered all-conference honors for the efforts. This past season, Moore's athletes logged a 3.77 ERA with 8.59 punchouts per nine innings.
Moore's playing career culminated at Randolph-Macon, where he graduated in 2018. He made 30 appearances, with his one start coming in the 2018 NCAA DIII World Series. Additional coaching experience came as the head coach of the Church Hill Patriots of the Piedmont Collegiate Baseball League.
Tarr brings Division I experience to the staff, after serving in assistant coaching roles with Georgetown and Coppin State. Coaching one season with the Eagles, Tarr worked primarily with the outfielders and assisted with the hitters.
Before his time in the college circuit, he served as the head coach of Marshall High School in Virginia. During his seven seasons at the helm the Griffins compiled a 116-47 mark, earned six straight district titles and a state/regional runner-up finish in 2015. Tarr propelled 29 of his players to a collegiate baseball career.
Berman played under Leoni at Marymount, competing in 83 contests with the Saints until graduation in 2019. As a sophomore, he batted .294 in limited action while eclipsing an OPS over 1.000. Doubling his game total as a junior, Berman enjoyed his most productive season by logging 19 hits including seven for extra bases. He also showed patience at the plate, drawing 24 free passes.
His coaching career prior to Emmitsburg includes a brief stint with UMass Boston this past spring, and work with travel ball at the Briantree Baseball Club.
This quartet of coaches will lead the Mountaineers to games beginning in February 2022.
