Box Score Staten Island, N.Y. (May 9, 2021)—Mount St. Mary's rallied to earn an 8-7 win in the opening game of a Northeast Conference doubleheader at Wagner. The second game was postponed due to the weather with Wagner leading 8-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning. Today was the last day to play NEC regular season games, so the missed games against Wagner will not be made up.
The Mount finishes the season with a 19-25 overall record and an 11-13 mark in the NEC. The Mountaineers missed out on the final NEC playoff spot by percentage points. Sacred Heart swept its doubleheader today against Bryant and finished with a 13-15 league record (.464 winning percentage) while the Mount went 11-13 in league play (.458 winning percentage).
In the opening game, the Mount rallied from an early four-run deficit, and then from a 6-4 deficit after five innings of play to secure th comeback victory.
The Seahawks struck for four runs in the bottom of the first to put the pressure on the Mountaineers. Wagner's Natalie Del Ponte started the scoring with a two-run double, Makenzie Miller a run-scoring single, and Mackenzie Vogler an RBI double in the frame.
The Mount responded quickly, scoring four times in the top of the second to even the score at 4-4.
Tori Bowles led off with a single, and
Elizabeth King doubled to put two runners in scoring position with no outs.
Abigayle Perry followed with a double to plate the Mount's first two runs on the day.
Maggie Kane reached on a bunt single, and
Lexi Donovan's bunt single brought home Perry to make it 4-3.
Bridgette Gilliano came through with a two-out single to center to tie the score.
Wagner regained the lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Mount tied the score with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth.
Mariah Godde and GIlliano each walked in the inning, and
Kaia Bonshock's single to right field cut the deficit to one. Bowles then singled to center field to even the score.
The Mount scored twice in the top of the seventh to take its first lead of the game. Kane reached on an error and Donovan walked to put runners on first and second with no outs. Godde's sacrifice bunt moved the runners up, and
Kaylee Stoner's base hit gave the Mount a 7-6 lead. Gilliano's squeeze bunt plated Donovan with a key insurance run.
Wagner made it interesting in the bottom of the seventh, putting runners on first and second after an error and a walk. A sacrifice moved the runners into scoring position, and Alexis Silnonte's sacrifice fly to center made it a one-run game. Mount relief pitcher

Bowles, King and Donovan each had multiple-hit games for the Mount while Kane had a pair of runs scored. Neuhart picked up the win, allowing two runs (one earned) in three innings of relief. She did not allow a hit while walking a pair. Starter
