May 24, 2021—The Mount St. Mary's outdoor track and field team had three athletes qualify for the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Round, which will be hosted May 26-29, in Jacksonville, Florida by North Florida and the Jacksonville Sports Authority. The four-day competition will take place at UNF's Hodges Stadium.

Earning spots at this year's East Preliminary Round are Dylan LaNoue (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) in the triple jump, Carter Nave (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) in the pole vault and Brian Sagendorf (Elizabeth, N.J./Union Catholic) in the javelin.

LaNoue is 21st in the field of 48 competitors in the triple jump.  The junior had his best mark of the season at the Mount 33-48 Invitational on April 16 when he broke the school record with a leap of 15.72m (51' 7").  LaNoue broke the record set by Mark Tobias (15.41m, 50' 7") 38 years ago at the NCAA's on May 28.  The men's triple jump will be contested on Friday, May 28, at 3:15 p.m.

Nave, a senior, earned his spot at the NCAA East Preliminary by breaking the Northeast Conference record at this year's NEC Championships.  Nave had a vault off 5.05m (16' 6.75") to win the pole vault at the NEC's.  That mark moves him into second place on the Mount's all-time list behind David Hinton, who set the record of 5.30m (17' 4.5") at the 2004 NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas.  The pole vault will be on Wednesday, May 26, at 3:00 p.m.

Sagendorf, a graduate student, broke his own school record on two occasions this year to earn his way to the NCAA East Preliminary.  This will be his third appearance at the NCAA East Preliminary after qualifying in both 2016 and 2017.  His throw of 68.19m (223' 9") at the ECAC/IC4A Championships on May 14 solidified Sagendorf's spot in the field.  His mark is 22nd in the list of 48 competitors in the field.  The javelin will be contested on Wednesday, May 26, at 1:30 p.m.

For each individual event contested at each of the preliminary sites, the top-48 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event, the top-24 declared relay teams were accepted into the competition. Combined events (heptathlon and decathlon) are not contested at the preliminary sites.

Qualifiers out of the East and West Regions who place in the top 12 in their events will advance to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships, from June 9-12, in Eugene, Oregon.
