Box Score EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 7, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse snaps their seven game losing streak after winning 16-9 against VMI. Matt Haggerty led the offensive charge for the Mountaineers after scoring four goals, while Luke Frankeny scored three goals. Jared McMahon scored two goals and tallied two assists to help the Mount secure its second non-conference win of the season. The Mount and VMI both had 42 shots, but the Mount had the slight edge with 25 shots on target compared to VMI's 23.
The Keydets were led by Ryan Perouty and Scout Ripley who both scored a hat trick.
The Mount's Dylan Furnback made 14 saves in net, while Jack Liselli made nine saves for VMI.
Brendan Doyle helped the Mountaineers get out to an early 2-0 lead after he scored two goals in the first minute and a half. VMI and the Mount traded goals midway through the first quarter to keep the lead at two. Ripley scored his first goal of the game to cut the lead down to one. Haggerty then responded with a six minute hat trick to extend the Mount's lead to 6-2. VMI scored a late goal to make it 6-3 at the end of the first quarter.
The Mount and VMI exchanged goals to start the second quarter. Frankeny and Haggerty both scored one goal to increase the lead to five. The Mount's defense held strong until the last two minutes of the second quarter when VMI scored two late goals to put the score at 9-6 going into halftime.
Both defenses held their ground until midway through the third quarter when J. McMahon and Frankeny scored a goal each to make the score 11-6. The Keydets and the Mount traded goals 33 seconds apart to keep the lead at five. Ripley then scored his third goal of the game near the end of the third quarter to make it 12-8.
J. McMahon scored 42 seconds into the fourth quarter to put the lead back to five. Frankeny completed his hat trick with 5:21 remaining in the fourth quarter to make the score 14-8. VMI scored their final goal of the game with 3:06 left in the fourth quarter. Ryan Ketchen scored his first goal of the season to make it 15-9 for the Mountaineers. CJ Stowell scored the final goal of the game with 29 seconds left to reach the final score of 16-9.
