Women’s Rugby Held Scoreless against Army

EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 24, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's women's rugby fell to Army 70-0 today at Echo Field. The Mountaineers had of chances, but a couple of mistakes in addition Army held their shape defensively. The Mount hasn't been held scoreless since 2018 against Navy in a 7s game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mount had an early chance to take the lead, but the Mountaineers turned the ball over, which led to Army scoring their first try seven minutes into the game to go up 5-0.
  • Army scored another try after the Mount gave the ball away deep in their own territory to make it 10-0.
  • In the last 15 minutes of the half, Army went on a 24-0 run to extend the lead to 34-0 going into half.
  • Army came out of halftime and scored two quick tries to increase the lead to 46-0.
  • The Mount was able to stop Army for about 14 minutes then the Black Knights broke through and scored five tries in the last 20 minutes to win 75-0.

The Mount will host their season finale against West Chester in a doubleheader at Echo Field on Thursday, April 29th starting at 3:00 p.m.
