Men’s Lacrosse Picks up First NEC Win of the Season

Box Score EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 14, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse picked up their first NEC win after defeating Sacred Heart 14-12. The Mountaineers had Jake Krieger and Luke Frankeny each scored a hat trick with Brendan Doyle adding two goals and one assist. Jared McMahon and Connor McMahon each added two goals for the Mount. The Mountaineers man-down defense was great again allowing one goal on five opportunities. The Mount was outshot 51-40 by the Pioneers.
 
The Pioneers were led by Drew Edwards who scored four goals and tallied one assist and Logan Liljeberg contributed three assists and two goals.
 
The Mount's Dylan Furnback made 20 saves today, while Colton King and Peter Callahan combined for 13 saves for the Pioneers.
 
The Mount started dominated the first quarter allowing zero goals. Doyle got the Mountaineers on the board quickly to start the scoring in the first two minutes. C. McMahon scored his fifth goal of the season to make it 2-0 for the Mountaineers. A minute later Kreiger got on the score sheet to increase the lead to three. Both defenses held solid until Krieger found the back of the net again with 5:11 remaining in the first quarter. Matt Haggerty ended the first quarter with his first goal of the day to continue his scoring streak to five games.
 
The second quarter was controlled by Scared Heart as they scored in the first three minutes to make it 5-1. Two minutes later Liljeberg scored his first goal of the game. Edwards found the back of the net to make it 5-3 with 8:28 left in the second quarter. 25 seconds later sacred scored to reduce the lead to one. Sacred Heart tied up the game with 3:23 remaining with a Max Lionetti goal. The Mount regained the lead with 30 seconds out the second quarter with a J. McMahon goal. He started behind the net and beat his man then fired a shot to the far post to beat the goalie. 
 
The Mount started the third quarter with an early 2-0 lead. Cormac Giblin scored his first goal of the season off a Haggerty pass to give the Mount a 7-5 lead. Frankeny added a goal to increase the lead to three. Sacred Heart and the Mount traded goals to keep the lead at three, but J. McMahon scored his third goal of the season to make it 10-6 for the Mount with 6:08 remaining. The Pioneers closed out the third quarter on a 4-0 run with Edwards scoring two goals and tied the score up at 10-10.
 
The fourth quarter started with Krieger completing his hat trick to give the lead back to the Mount. Frankeny completed his hat trick midway through the fourth quarter to give the Mount a 12-10 lead. The Mount and Sacred Heart exchanged goals 18 seconds apart to keep the lead at two, but Edwards scored his fourth goal to make it 13-12. Noah Daniels responded 31 seconds later to seal the game for the Mountaineers and make the final score 14-12.
 
The Mount returns to action on Saturday, April 17th at noon against LIU.
