Water Polo Drops Two to Wrap Up Villanova Weekend

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 7, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's ended up on the wrong side of two contests during the second day of their weekend at Villanova. The Mount fell to VMI 20-4 and trailed Villanova 21-4 before the game concluded in a forfeit.

Goalkeeper Rebekka Williams managed a busy day in goal, finishing the day with 23 saves – 12 against VMI and 11 versus Villanova. The net minder registered 43 saves over the weekend.

Ana Luisa Cotta posted half of the team's goals, posting two each game. Riley Thompson accounted for three goals, and Emily Van Kerckhove added a goal against VMI.

The Mount got off to rough starts in both games as their opponents shut them out. Trailing 12-2 in the opener and 10-1 in the nightcap, the competition pulled away further in the third quarter, shutting out the Mountaineers again.

The game with Villanova was completed, but in the third quarter the Mount had two players exit with three drawn exclusions. With too few athletes left to compete, the game was awarded to the Wildcats.

With a 0-4 start, Mount St. Mary's looks to get better with a second Villanova weekend. The Mount rematches with VMI and Villanova, while also challenging La Salle.
