EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 6, 2021) – Ana Luisa Cotta scored the first-ever women's water polo goal, and
Rebekka Williams recorded 20 saves as the team began intercollegiate play.
The squad fell in both games, losing 17-7 to Saint Francis U and 20-8 to Salem.
Cotta's goal came in the first quarter against the Red Flash, serving as the lone goal in the period. The Mount fell behind 10-2 at the half and 14-4 by the end of the third quarter. Williams had 12 saves, and the Mountaineers closed the gap with a trio of fourth quarter goals.
Williams added another eight saves in the second game, but the defense allowed the Tigers to post 20 goals to win going away.
Mount St. Mary's will challenge VMI and host Villanova on Sunday's (March 7) edition of the invitational.
