Tough Tests Continue for Mount Baseball with Road Set at CCSU

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 31, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's baseball faces another challenging series this weekend, traveling to Central Connecticut. The three-game set pits the Mount against the most recent Northeast Conference tournament champion.
 
ABOUT THE MOUNT
 
The Mount is coming off a three-game sweep against the Bryant Bulldogs. Myles Nicholson provided a spark with two home runs during the series, and Brady Drawbaugh had four hits during Saturday's doubleheader.
 
With a 1-5 start in NEC play, the Mount sits at the bottom of the conference standings. Drawbaugh leads the offense with a .358 average and 13 RBI's. Nicholson continues to showcase his speed with nine steals as well as his power with three homeruns.  
 
Freshman Ben Iervolino leads the pitching staff with a 3.00 ERA across three appearances, with junior starter Bryant Shives right behind him with a 3.42. Jordan Geber leads with 28 strikeouts, followed by Brenden Kennedy with 20.
 
ABOUT CCSU
 
Central Connecticut has picked up on their success, posting a 7-5 record with a 4-2 mark in NEC action. The team took two games of three in series against Sacred Heart and Fairleigh Dickinson. Non-conference victories include UAlbany, Massachusetts and Stony Brook.  
 
Senior infielder Buddy Dewaine leads the Blue Devils in average with a .354, and fellow infielder Dan Covino leads in homers and RBI's with a respective four and 14. Starting pitcher Andrew Braun boasts a 3.13 ERA with 30 strikeouts.
 
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
 
Central Connecticut holds a 46-29 advantage in the series that goes back to 1998. The Blue Devils swept the last meeting in 2019, with the Mount's last win coming in a 9-8, 12 inning victory in May 2018.
 
ON DECK
 
Mount St. Mary's returns home to face Sacred Heart the second weekend in April. They will face CCSU again in the final home series in May.
