Box Score Smithfield, R.I. (March 28, 2021)—Amanda Berkley tossed a two-hit shutout while a five-run second inning fueled a 9-0 win for Mount St. Mary's at Bryant on Sunday morning. The Mount improves to 10-15 overall and 3-4 in the NEC with the win. The second game of the doubleheader was cancelled due to the weather.
Berkley was terrific in the circle for the Mount, allowing just two hits while striking out four in the complete-game victory to improve to 7-4 on the season.
Lexi Donovan went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Mount in the victory while
Kaia Bonshock was 2-for-4.
In the second,
Maggie Kane drew a one-out walk ahead of a
Lexi Donovan base hit to put runners at the corners.
Mariah Godde followed by lacing a ball to the right center field gap for a triple for a 2-0 lead.
Kaylee Stoner walked, and the Mount then executed a double steal to grab a 3-0 advantage. After a walk to
Abigayle Perry,
Kaia Bonshock doubled to bring home Stoner. A
Tori Bowles RBI groundout rounded out the scoring in the inning.
A Donovan RBI single in the third pushed the advantage to six, and the Mount added three more runs in the fourth to seal the win. Perry doubled and Bonshock singled to put two runners in scoring position in the fourth. Bowles scored Perry with a groundout, and another double steal allowed pinch runner
Julia Vincent to scamper home. Kane's RBI single made it a three-run inning for the Mountaineers.
With the cancellation of the second game of the doubleheader today, the series is viewed as complete according to NEC rules. The fourth game between the two teams will not be made up this year.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on April 2 and 3 when LIU visits Our Lady of the Meadows Field for a four-game NEC series. First pitch each day is slated for noon.
