Box Score EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 27, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse falls to Saint Joseph's 14-13 in overtime to drop to 0-3 in NEC play on the season. The Mountaineers were led by Matt Haggerty's four goals and Joe Bethke's two goals and two assists this afternoon. Senior Luke Frankeny scored three goals, while Brendan Doyle scored one goal and tallied two assists for the Mount.
The Mount's Dylan Furnback made 17 saves today for the Mountaineers, meanwhile Saint Joseph's Tucker Almany made nine saves to secure the victory for the Hawks.
Saint Joseph's was led by Matt Tufano who scored one goal, but tallied three assists. Ryan Doran and Matt Bohmer each scored three to guide the Hawks to a NEC win.
The Mount got off to a quick start scoring three goals in the first four minutes of the game. Bethke scored the first goal in 37 seconds to give the Mount a 1-0 lead. Frankeny scored two of his three goals 10 seconds apart to give the Mount a 3-0 lead. The Hawks scored two goals midway through the first quarter to cut the lead to one. The Mount and Saint Joseph's traded late goals to give the Mount a 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Hawks scored two early goals six seconds apart to take their first lead of the day at 5-4. Haggerty scored his second goal of the day after Noah Daniels found him wide open and fired a hard shot past the goalie to tie the game up at 5-5. The Hawks responded with two goals of their own to take a 7-5 lead. Bethke scored right before halftime to reduce the deficit to one going into the locker room.
Sam Stephan took the opening faceoff and scored to tie the game back up at seven apiece. The Hawks scored two quick goals to take another two goal lead at 9-7. Haggerty completed his hat trick to make it 9-8 with about 12 minutes remaining in the quarter. Saint Joseph's and the Mount traded goals twice to have a score of 11-10 favoring the Hawks, but with six seconds remaining in the third quarter Bohmer scored his second goal of the day to make it 12-10.
The fourth quarter started with both teams struggling to score until the Brenden McCarthy found the back of the net with 8:19 remaining in the fourth. This kicked off a 3-0 run that lasted for about seven minutes. Jake Krieger scored his only goal of the day to tie the game up at 12-12 with 6:48 remaining. Haggerty scored on the man advantage to give the Mountaineers a 13-12 lead with 1:28 remaining in the game, but Bohmer sent the game to overtime when he scored off a tight angle to tie the game up with six seconds remaining.
In overtime, Saint Joseph's scored when Doran scooped up a ground ball on a Furnback save to find an open net to score and keep them undefeated in the NEC.

The Mount returns to action on Saturday, April 3rd at Waldron Family Stadium against Sacred Heart at 1:00 p.m.
