EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 26, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's swimming & diving teams split up for the 2021 Northeast Conference Championships, with the divers heading to Connecticut this weekend and the swimmers heading to Pennsylvania next week.
Diving takes place Saturday and Sunday and will be streamed on NEC Front Row. Swimming, which will also be shown live, begins on Tuesday.
MOUNT UPDATE
The Mountaineer women finished at 1-2 during the shortened season, defeating VMI. The men finished the campaign at 0-3.
The men have earned 22 top 10 times, led by
Nicholas Santorelli with four. Santorelli ranks fifth in the NEC with a time of 1:59.53 in the 200 backstroke.
Kira Buchler has excelled for the women, also with a high ranking in the 200 backstroke. The junior finished with a time of 2:08.33 on March 6
th, which places fourth in the conference.
CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
This is the inaugural championship for the men's tournament after the NEC added swimming & diving as a sport in 2020.
The women are seeking their first-ever conference title. Central Connecticut has won the most championships at six.
NO SPECTATOR POLICY
As the Northeast Conference prepares to host championships in the months of February, March and early April, it has announced it will not permit any spectators to attend the following NEC Championships: Men's and Women's Cross Country, Men's and Women's Basketball, Women's Bowling, Women's Volleyball, and Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving. Decisions about allowing spectators at NEC Championship events conducted beginning in mid-April will be made at a future date.
