Emmitsburg Bound Rider Face Off Against The Mount in First Home Dual-Meet of the Year

EMMITSBURG, Md. (December 15, 2024) – In their first home dual-meet of the year, Mount St. Mary's Swimming and Diving face off against Rider at the ARCC swimming pool on Monday, December 16 at 2:00 p.m. Rider will have their divers compete at home in Lawrenceville, New Jersey on Saturday, December 14 at 10:30 a.m.
 
MOUNT UPDATE
 
The Mountaineers placed second and third amongst both the women's and men's teams respectively at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational on November 24, with the women scoring 999 points and the men scoring 1,266 amongst a field of schools including Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg, Franklin and Marshall, Frostburg State, Kean, Kutztown, Mary Washington, Millersville, Rowan, Shippensburg, Swarthmore, and Washington College.
 
On Sunday during the final day of the invitational, Jason Fitch won the 200-Yard Backstroke, logging a time of 1:47.21 to win the event. Aidan Grady took first place in the 200-Yard Breaststroke, finishing that race in 2:02.65. The women's 400-Yard Freestyle relay team captured a victory in 3:28.57, with the team comprised of Christina Lazari, Madison Murphy, Carmen Del Aguila Martin, and Meghan Speicher.
 
Along with the high placements, two Mountaineers earned new top times in the record book. Liam Rooney eclipsed his own record in the 200-Yard Butterfly, finishing Sunday's race of 1:53.05 to place third. He joins the men's 400-Yard Freestyle Relay team of Nicholas Santorelli, Austin Toland, Parker Koenig, and Lucas Hancock. The quartet's time of 3:04.59 beats the mark of 3:04.81 from the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship.
 
Additional top performances include Del Aguila Martin and Theodora Kanellopoulou finishing 2-3 in the 200-Yard Backstroke, a runner-up effort by Lazari in the 200 breaststroke, and top five efforts from John Baroody (200 backstroke), Speicher (100 freestyle), Santorelli (100 free), and Joshua Nelson (200 breaststroke)
 
On Saturday, Del Aguila placed first in the A Fina for the women's 400-Yard Intermediate with a time of 4:26.29. Lazari placed first in the women's 100-Yard Breaststroke A Final with a time of 1:03.25. And Kanellopoulou placed second in the women's 100-Yard Backstroke A Final with a time of 57.42, little more than a second off the pace of the first place finisher from Rowan.
 
On the men's side of the meet, Koenig placed first in the men's 100-Yard Butterfly A Final with a time of 48.51, two second shorter than his preliminary round time. Santorelli won the A Final of the men's 200-Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:40.61, again, two seconds off his earlier preliminary score. And Grady placed first in the men's 100-Yard Breaststroke A Final with a 53.83. The men's 200-Yard Medley Relay team of Grady, Koenig, Fitch, and Toland finished first in the A Final 1:30.33, a full second in front of the second-place team.
 
And during the first session on Friday, Del Aguila placed first in the women's 500-Yard Freestyle with a time of 4:55.24, a second off her prelims time. Lazari won the women's 50-Yard Freestyle with a time of 23.34, .02 faster than Bloomsburg's Rylee Wetzel. Both women's 400-Yard Medley and 200-Yard Freestyle relay teams comprised of Lazari, Del Aguila, Speicher, Murphy, Kanellopoulou, and Hanna Aggen placed first in their events with times of 3:47.57 and 1:35.25 respectively.  
 
In the Men's categories, the Mount continued their dominance from where the women left off. The Men's 400-Yard Medley Relay team of Fitch, Grady, Koenig, and Toland placed first in the A Final with a time of 3:18.52. This result followed a first-place finish by Lucas Hancock in the men's 50-Yard Freestyle, with the sophomore finishing with a time of 20.51.
 
PREVIOUS PERFORMANCES
 
The Mount last faced off against the Broncs exactly one year ago to the date from this week's meet on December 16, 2023 in a dual meet loss for the program, with the men losing 120-91 and the women losing with a score of 195-101.
