ROCHESTER, N.Y. (March 15, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's bowling wrapped up one of their more successful weekends in program history with a second straight 3-0 day. Registering two scores over 1,000, the Mount triumphed in all three showdowns with Roberts Wesleyan Sunday (March 14).
Combined with their efforts against Daeman the day before, the Mountaineers went 6-0 across the two days to improve their record to 36-16.
"While yesterday we saw a pattern that refused to break down, today at a different house we saw the same pattern transition rapidly." Head coach Kenneth DeGraaf said. "Aside from the second set, which still ended as a win, I was happy with how five of our six matches went.
The Mount began the day with a 1027-1016 nail-biting traditional match. Freshman Paige Boyd led the team with 226 as the Mountaineers needed multiple players to post plus-200 games. They got it, with superb efforts from Rebecca Dodson (213), Tamera Stanton (212) and Alyssa Alexander (211).
Pattern transitions threw off the Mount in first of two Baker games as they rolled an 878. Roberts Wesleyan also struggled with an 853. The final match of the day separated the sides, with the Mount making the proper adjustments to achieve a pin-fall of 1038 to RWC's 879.
Dodson's 20.84 Baker frame average topped the Mount's totals, followed by a 19.20 from Stanton.
The efforts from the dual matches last weekend gives a momentum building seven game win streak to conclude the regular season as the Mount transitions to postseason play. That starts with the Northeast Conference Championships this coming weekend.
"These matches were all about feeling good about who we are and bowling like we were the only team there." DeGraaf said. "It was a mindset that worked for us and we look forward to bringing this revised mindset to NEC's next weekend in hopes of following the success of our decorated basketball teams."
A victory for the bowling squad at the conference championships would join the school's basketball teams as the third champion for the Mount. The three-day tournament begins Friday (March 19) in North Brunswick, New Jersey.
