VILLANOVA, Pa. (March 13, 2021) – Although it was a better showing Friday than last week, Mount St. Mary's water polo fell on the short end of a contest with VMI. The 15-5 defeat opened up play in the Mount's second weekend at Villanova.
Emily Van Kerckhove recorded a pair of goals while Madison Szczublewski assisted on two. The Nevadan also added a goal of her own, a steal and a field block to earn the best all-around effort for the Mountaineers.
Lily Pullen created several power play opportunities by drawing four exclusions. In goal, Rebekka Williams once again tallied double digit saves, stopping 11 Keydet shots.
As a team, the Mount (0-5) drew nine exclusions and scored two of their five goals in 6-on-5 situations.
This is the second time VMI has defeated the Mount, after beating them 20-4 in the first Villanova weekend. VMI once again took control of the contest early, leading 4-1 after the first quarter and 7-2 at the half. Mount St. Mary's tacked on two goals in the third, and never allowed more than four goals in a period.
Continuing the search for their first win as a program resumes tomorrow, when the Mount challenges La Salle and Villanova on the second and final day near the City of Brotherly Love.
