Box Score EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 28, 2021) – After starting off with a four run second inning, Richmond comebacks late to secure the sweep of the Mountaineers.
The Mount (0-4) scored five runs on eight hits with Brady Drawbaugh and Thomas Savasito recording two hits apiece. Drawbuagh was the team leader in RBI's, driving in four runs. Myles Nicholson had a triple and a run scored for the Mountaineers.
On the mound, Brenden Kennedy went 4.2 innings giving up only one earned run, two hits, and struck out three people. Blake Beal went 2.2 innings giving up three hits and two earned runs with one strikeout.
Richmond's Justin Cook went 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI's and Jeremy Neff went 5.0 innings with giving up three hits, one earned run, and striking out six batters.
The Mount started off the second inning with a Savasito double after that Thomas Bramley walked and CJ Kozorosky singled to load the bases for Drawbaugh. Drawbaugh took the second pitch and crushed it to left field for a grand slam to give the Mountaineers a 4-0 lead. Richmond added a run in the second to make it 4-1.
The bats went quiet for two innings until the Nicholson led off the fifth inning with a triple and Vaughn Parker II hit a sac fly to right field to score Nicholson to make it 5-1. Richmond scored a sacrifice fly of their own to keep the lead at three.
In the sixth inning, Richmond got a hit batter and two walks to load the bases. Cook took the first pitch and sent it over the center field wall to take a 6-5 lead.
In the eighth inning the Mountaineers has runners on the corner with two outs and a chance to take the lead. Ryan Haddaway hit a blooper, but the Spiders second baseman made a great catch to prevent a run from scoring. Richmond hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to reach the final score of 7-5.
The Mountaineers next game is against Bucknell at E.T. Straw Family Stadium on Thursday, March 4
th at 3:00 p.m.
